::: cronies :::
Most of you know Maureen McCormick as lovable, prissy, oldest sister Marcia on the late 60's, early 70's television show the Brady Bunch. What most of you probably don't know is that my oldest sister originally played Marcia. The Brady Bunch has become an American icon. It's as American as mom and apple pie. Every generation of kids has enjoyed watching the endless hours of Brady Bunch re-runs; from the first episode where all the kids crash Mike and Carol's honeymoon, through Greg learning to drive, Peter being too short, Bobby as Billy the Kids, Marcia getting bonked on the nose before prom, Jan and her glasses (remember her falling off the bike - ha!), and Cindy with Kitty Carryall. Oh, and let's not forget Alice, Sam, cousin Oliver, and Tiger. Needless to say, everyone has their favorite episode... but my favorite is one is one you haven't seen. It's the first episode, the wedding one, only my sister played Marcia. If my memory serves me correctly, the story goes like this: Sharon and Maureen were friends from school, and while it was Maureen who wanted to be an actress, Sharon often accompanied her to the various open casting call and did so when she went for the part of Marcia Brady. Maureen and my sister would end up being called back two, three, and four times to read for the part... and eventually Sharon got it.
Then, as they rehearsed one day, Sharon got in a huge fight with Florence Henderson over Barry Williams (the guy who played Greg). Sharon was very much interested in this young man, and as we all know, so was Mrs. Henderson. Well Florence was not going to allow this feuding to go on and burst into Sherwood Schwartz's office demanding that Sharon be replaced. Maureen was called back for one last audition; the rest is history. So that's my story, of my older sister, who was originally one of three Brady girls. The characters and events depicted in this biography are fictional. The characters bear no resemblance to any person living or dead. |
